The CDL Gateway™
The Turnkey Caterpillar Machine Condition Monitoring Solution
In 2008, when Caterpillar® discontinued the CCM Module, Monico filled the gap by creating the CDL Gateway™—a rugged, protocol-aware device designed specifically for CAT engine monitoring. It supports all essential communication and data points from CAT engines, generator control panels, and marine systems. It polls between 20 and 60 parameters per second and is capable of monitoring unlimited parameters with virtually no setup required.
Compatible CAT Machines & Equipment Include:
- 3400 & 3500 Series Diesel Engines
- G3500 & G3600 Gas Engines
- C-Series ACERT Engines
- EMCP II and EMCP 3 Generator Control Panels
- Marine & Mining Power Systems
If your application requires additional or custom parameters, we can easily configure and deploy them within your Gateway.
Simplified Setup & Configuration:
With its USB user interface, the CDL Gateway™ makes configuration easy for field techs or engineers. Simply install the USB driver and connect to view port assignments, device addresses, IP settings, and active parameters. No proprietary tools or specialized training required—just plug in and go.

CDL Gateway™ PLUS: Remote Caterpillar® Monitoring & More
The CDL Gateway™ PLUS includes all the industrial protocol support of the Basic version, with powerful added features:
- Real-time data logging
- Embedded mail server for alerts
- Time sync services
- Virtual HMI with touchscreen interface
- Remote access and configuration tools
These capabilities enable full-scale remote monitoring of Caterpillar® engines and generators at a fraction of the cost of traditional systems—saving time, reducing site visits, and improving asset oversight.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What is CAT® Data Link (CDL), and why is it important?
CAT Data Link is Caterpillar’s proprietary communication protocol used to transmit operational data from engines, generator sets, and control panels. Monico’s CDL Gateway™ communicates natively over CDL, making it easier to access and interpret equipment data without additional hardware or drivers.
Do I need any special software to configure the CDL Gateway™?
No proprietary software is needed. The Gateway is configured via a built-in USB user interface that appears automatically when plugged into a Windows-based computer. Users can easily assign IP addresses, set port configurations, and view active data parameters.
Can the CDL Gateway™ integrate with SCADA or the PI System?
Yes. The CDL Gateway™ supports industrial protocols like Modbus, OPC, and Ethernet/IP, making it easy to route data into SCADA systems, AVEVA PI System, or cloud-based platforms. It acts as both a protocol converter and a data bridge.
Which Caterpillar® equipment is compatible with the CDL Gateway™?
The CDL Gateway™ supports a wide range of CAT engines and control systems, including 3400 and 3500 series diesel engines, G3500 and G3600 gas engines, C-Series ACERT engines, and EMCP II and III generator control panels. It’s also widely used in marine and mining applications.
What’s the difference between the CDL Gateway™ and the PLUS version?
The CDL Gateway™ PLUS includes everything from the base model, plus additional features like real-time data logging, a built-in mail server for alerting, time synchronization, and a virtual touchscreen HMI. These added features enable remote condition monitoring and expanded visualization.
How quickly does the Gateway collect data?
The CDL Gateway™ polls between 20 and 60 parameters per second, ensuring that you’re capturing fast-changing values like load, RPM, temperature, and fault codes in real time.
