We use a CPC Gateway PLUS ourselves. It is set up in our home office in Spring, Texas to monitor our Kohler model 40REZG, 40KW generator. We use the generator for both backup power, and to run a web demo of our Virtual HMI screens to demonstrate to customers the capabilities our products have. The CPC Gateway PLUS, as all of Monico’s PLUS Gateways, offers a Virtual HMI Web Server. This server allows remote access to your equipment through Google Chrome. The web pages come pre-configured for basic data or can be custom built.

Remote Machine Monitoring including Engines and Gensets

Remote monitoring and automation in the industrial sector often overlaps with machine to machine communications. This Gateway is a pre-configured solution that provides basic HMI screens over Google Chrome, and allows for remote machine monitoring along with engines and generators. Because of its ability for two-way communications with popular PLC manufacturers, it can collect and convert data from many different pieces of industrial equipment and machinery.

Popular PLC Manufacturers this gateway communicates with:

Machine Data Logger

In addition to monitoring, the CPC Gateway PLUS can also accept up to a 2GB Flash memory card that will store up to 200 days worth of data in both raw and CSV formats. This means that the gateway can also act as a machine data logger, allowing you to collect data on the productivity of support equipment along with engines and gensets. The Gateway has a Sync Server to copy data log files with an external server located on the network and an FTP Server to upload data log files from any location on the network.

It can be used to connect Allen Bradley, GE, Siemens, Cummins Gensets and Schnieder PLC’s into one functional network. Contact us with your special application and see if we can solve your communications issues.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CPC Gateway™ used for?

The CPC Gateway™ (Custom Protocol Converter) is a powerful, multi-protocol device that collects data from a wide variety of industrial equipment using different communication standards and unifies that data into a single, consistent format — ideal for engine and genset monitoring, as well as broader plant-wide integration.

What types of protocols and devices are supported?

The CPC Gateway™ supports a vast list of both standard and proprietary protocols. It can connect to PLCs, drives, sensors, and other industrial devices from manufacturers like GE Fanuc, Schneider, Siemens, Yaskawa, and many more. Protocols include CANopen, Ethernet IP, DeviceNet, ProfiBus, and Caterpillar® Data Link, among others.

Can I monitor engines and generator sets with this device?

Yes. While it’s broader than a single-brand solution like the CDL Gateway™, the CPC Gateway™ excels in multi-equipment environments where engines, gensets, and auxiliary systems must be monitored together using different protocols.

What’s the typical data polling speed?

The device pulls data at a rate of roughly 20–60 parameters per second, depending on the protocol and setup. This high throughput supports real-time monitoring of complex systems.

Can this gateway be used in multi-vendor environments?

Absolutely. It’s ideal for complex environments where different OEM devices need to be brought into a single monitoring or control system. Whether you’re bridging legacy equipment with modern SCADA or unifying data from multiple vendor PLCs, the CPC Gateway™ provides the necessary flexibility.

How is the CPC Gateway™ different from other protocol converters?

Most converters support only a handful of protocols and one-to-one communication. The CPC Gateway™ supports up to nine protocols simultaneously, across four to six physical ports, and works with over 100 industrial protocols — including Allen Bradley, Modbus, Siemens, BACnet, Honeywell, and more.

How does the CPC Gateway™ simplify integration?

By translating various inputs into a common, pre-configured data map, the CPC Gateway™ eliminates the complexity of mapping and formatting data manually. It enables seamless integration between disparate systems without custom coding or complicated middleware.

How customizable is the CPC Gateway™?

Extremely. Monico engineers can configure the Gateway to pull data from non-standard sources and output it in the exact protocol or data structure required by your control or monitoring system. This customization is what makes it a “custom” protocol converter.

Is this device safe for use in hazardous environments?

Yes. The CPC Gateway™ is C-IL approved for Class I, Div II Groups A-D hazardous locations, making it suitable for use in environments like oil and gas, marine, and heavy industrial settings.

How quickly can I get a CPC Gateway™ up and running?

Thanks to Monico’s pre-configured solutions and intuitive USB interface, installation is quick and setup can often be completed by any technician with basic computer skills. There’s no need to manually map registers — the data is already formatted for integration.
