CCM Module For G3500 & G3600 Gas EnginesThe G3500 and G3600 series gas engines are the most popular engines for Natural Gas Compression applications and very large generators. These are very sophisticated engines that range from six cylinders to twenty cylinders. In a generator mode, they can generate up to 3 megawatts with a G3616. Some of these engines can have up to 290-300 parameters that can be used for maintenance and performance monitoring. Because of the high number of parameters, the CCM module is quite slow for these application where it only updates about 3-4 parameters/second. The Monico CCM Translator can provide a Modbus interface through the CCM module.The other option Caterpillar® provides to interface with these engines is the PL1000E which requires quite a bit of setup and programming to implement. It is limited to about 80-90 parameters, so users need to be very picky about which parameters to program. However, a better option is the Monico CDL Gateway™ which provides up to 15 registers per second update rate and is not limited in the number of parameters it can monitor. It provides Modbus RTU over RS-232, Modbus RTU over RS-485 (2-wire or 4-wire), and Modbus TCP/IP over Ethernet. The CDL Gateway™ can also provide complete data to many different brands of PLC's such as Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Omron, and many others. A good percentage of our customers in the Natural Gas Compression market are using a CCM Module which outputs M5X and M50 protocol. Then they buy a Monico CCM Translator to convert M5X to Modbus RTU. Then they buy a ProSoft module to convert Modbus into an Allen Bradley PLC. The Monico CDL Gateway™ replaces all three of these devices by directly communicating with the engine data link and placing all the information in Allen Bradley data registers for direct transmission into the PLC. Considerable cost savings can be achieved by using the CDL Gateway™ to eliminate the CCM module and the ProSoft card. In addition, you save programming, setup, and support of two devices and one protocol conversion steup. The CDL Gateway™ can perform the same function for many other brands of PLC's.
