EMCP II and EMCP 3 Translator

The EMCP II is a Generator Set controller made by Caterpillar® that interfaces with the engine and generator to provide a fairly complete view of the system. In fact, some of these generators can have over 250 available parameters to monitor for maintenance and performance. With the Monico CCM Translator or the Monico CDL Gateway™ you can communicate with both the engine ECM and the EMCP II to provide complete monitoring data of all available parameters. While the Monico CCM Translator requires the CCM module to interface with the generator, the CDL Gateway™ does not require any intermediary devices to communicate. Since the CDL Gateway™ communicates directly with the engine network, it updates parameters over ten times faster than the CCM Module. In addition, the CDL Gateway™ provides protocols and data map formats in addition to Modbus. . Recently, Caterpillar® introduced the ECMP 3 Generator Control Panel series. The EMCP 3.2 and 3.3 offer Modbus communications. However, several customers have experienced issues with the Modbus implementation. Since not all of the controllers on the network reside on the traditional data link, the Monico CDL Gateway™ will not provide generator data, but will provide engine data if connected to the electronic engine control module. The CDL Gateway™ can provide complete engine data via Modbus RTU over RS-232, Modbus RTU over RS-485 (2-wire or 4-wire), Modbus TCP/IP over Ethernet as well as BACnet for Building Management Systems such as Liebert, Honeywell, and Siemens. The CDL Gateway™ can also provide complete data to many different brands of PLC's. Please click on the links above to see details for each of these products. Future product improvements will include a J1939 port which will allow the CDL Gateway™ to provide both Generator and Engine data in a single product. Neither the CCM Module or the PL1000E will operate with the EMCP 3 panels. The EMCP 3.1 panel has no provisions for communications, but the engine data is still available via the Engine ECM via the CDL Gateway™.
