CDL Gateway™ for Natural Gas Compressors
The most common application for the CDL Gateway™ is for monitoring Natural Gas Compressors used in Midstream Gathering and Pipelines. The majority of compressors are Natural Gas fueled reciprocating engines driving reciprocating compressors. The largest market share for engines is held by Caterpillar® and the largest market share for reciprocating compressors is held by Ariel. The CDL Gateway™ not only has the ability to monitor the Caterpillar® ADEM II and ADEM III engines directly without need for intermediary devices, but can also act as a Modbus Master to gather data from the Compressor controller. The most common non-PLC compressor controllers are from Altronics and FW Murphy. The CDL Gateway™ commonly acts as a Modbus master to the FW Murphy Centurion or Millennium products as well as to the DE-2500 and DE-3000 products from Altronics. The most common PLC based compressor controllers are from Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc, and Siemens. The CDL Gateway™ has the unique ability to establish two-way communications with all of these brands, without any need of special drivers or modules, which allows for some very powerful communications and monitoring networks. One of the more exciting applications is the FW Murphy Centurion PLUS, which uses the CDL Gateway color touch screen HMI as the primary operator interface for the compressor system.

CDL Gateway™ for Oilfield Generators
A very popular application for the CDL Gateway™ is for monitoring Caterpillar® generators that dominate the market for power generation on Drilling Rigs. The CAT® 3512B and 3512C models are dominant and only have a very basic local monitoring system and no generator controls. In most applications, there is no monitoring of the engines by the rig control system. There is tremendous value to monitoring the generator engines to maximize fuel economy, minimize downtime, and drastically reduce rig blackouts.

CDL Gateway™ for Marine Applications
Caterpillar® is a leading supplier of Main Propulsion, Gensets, and Auxiliary engines for Tugboats, Crew Boats, Offshore Supply Boats, Anchor Handling Boats, and Research Vessels. These engines have been primarily electronic for almost 10 years. The CDL Gateway™ is compatible with the older ADEM II ECM's, the more common ADEM III ECM's and the newer ADEM IV ECM's used in the newer C-series engines. The vast majority of the engines installed or refitted are electronic with the exception of the 3600 series of diesel propulsion engines. These engines were only converted to electronic controls in early 2008 with the introduction of the C280 series. The J1939 Gateway™ is used to monitor other manufacturers that comply with the J1939 Standard.

CDL Gateway™ for Generators
A very common application for the CDL Gateway™ is monitoring and basic control of natural gas and diesel fueled generators. We also monitor the new Bi-Fuel Generators. To read a whitepaper on Bi-Fuel in Generators please click here. The most common generators we monitor are made by Caterpillar®, but we also provide customer interfaces for Cummins, Generac, and MTU/Detroit. The CDL Gateway™ is compatible with all Caterpillar® EMCP II series of Generator Set Controllers (GSC) regardless of engine type. Whereas the EMCP 3 Gateway™ is compatible with EMCP 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 Generator Set Controllers regardless of engine type. It is important to note that the EMCP 3.1 offers no customer communications options, so our EMCP 3 Gateway™ is the only option. The Gateway can also be used to provide data concentration for other devices such as Digital I/O, Analog I/O, Thermocouples, RTD's, Switchgear, and fuel tank level monitoring.
